Where is Mittweida?

Mittweida is located in the east of Germany, about 75km west of the Saxon capital Dresden. Dresden and Leipzig airports are close by. By train you can reach Mittweida via Chemnitz. From Dresden, Leipzig and Berlin (also BER airport) you have to change trains once. There are also bus connections. However, these are much slower and less frequent than trains.

Town with a history of 800 years

The town of Mittweida is over 800 years old. There is no need for public transport - everything can be done on foot or by bicycle. There are supermarkets near the dormitories where you can do your shopping at reasonable prices. You can go to the cinema, open-air swimming pool, bowling alley or visit small pubs. Cultural highlights include classical and rock concerts and theatre performances at the university. Students can live very well in Mittweida.

Surroundings of Mittweida

Mittweida is a great place for nature lovers. The parks in the town invite you to take a walk. Mittweida is situated in the foothills of the Erzgebirge mountains in an area of outstanding natural beauty called the "Middle Zschopau Valley". Forests and the Zschopau River (considered the most beautiful in Saxony) dominate the landscape. You can enjoy mountain biking, water skiing, canoeing or roller skating. In the surroundings of Mittweida you can visit the old and completely renovated castle Kriebstein from the middle of the 19th century, the old castle park in Lichtenwalde with many fountains, the new family park "Sonnenlandpark" or the former castle of the Saxon king "Augustusburg" with many museums inside. The major cities of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig are easily reached by train, as is the German capital, Berlin, with its many cultural attractions and shopping opportunities.
