Bridge Semester

The bridge semester is aimed exclusively at graduates of our Studienkolleg (preparatory college). Participants get to know our university, their lecturers and fellow students in their degree programme. This gives them the opportunity to experience everyday student life and to prepare intensively for their further studies.
Why this programme?
The programme was developed because some students receive their DSH or FSP certificate from our Studienkolleg in February. However, our degree programmes only start in the winter semester. For this reason, the HSMW offers a bridging semester in the summer semester every year.
How is the semester structured?
Students are enrolled as Gasthörer and can attend the first courses of their chosen degree programme.
Examinations can be taken at the end of the semester. The examinations count towards the degree programme, even if they are not passed. Participation in examinations should therefore be carefully considered.
During the bridge semester, students can participate in extra-curricular activities offered by the university. These include participation in university sports and events hosted by the student initiative Cosmopolitan Club.
Students are assigned buddies. The buddies are students from the 2nd semester who attend courses with the bridge students and help them find their way around the university.
Modules
The bridge semester takes place annually from March to July. It includes in-depth subject and language preparation for the subsequent degree programme. This includes:
- Attendance of selected lectures from the first year of study
- Course on scientific writing
- Course on German as a scientific language
