How to finance a stay abroad

If you are planning to study abroad, you should also look into financial support options well in advance. Financial support is available from various organisations, depending on whether you want to study or do an internship abroad.

Auslands-BAfög

If you receive Bafög in Germany, you will certainly also receive Auslands-Bafög. You can finance a study period abroad with Bafög if you start your stay abroad within the standard period of study. Students who do not receive Bafög because they have too much income or assets can also apply for Bafög abroad. As expenses for studying abroad are often higher, the income and salary limits for Auslands-Bafög are set higher. First find out more on the Internet and contact the Auslands-Bafögamt that is assigned to your desired country.

ERASMUS+ grant

Your first choice should be an ERASMUS+ grant which is provided by the International Office. In order to receive the funding, you must spend the semester abroad at an ERASMUS+ partner university. You will receive a country-dependent allowance for at least 2 months. Depending on the applicant situation and availability of funds, we can support you for longer, up to a maximum of 12 months per study cycle.

You can also complete an ERASMUS+-internship in Europe. We work together with the Leonardo office at TU Dresden for this purpose.

PROMOS grant

PROMOS grants are your second choice! With PROMOS, we can support you wherever ERASMUS+ does not apply. Read here in detail what can be funded and find out more in a consultation with us. Please note: You must apply for this funding by the 15th of February and the 15th of June! There will be selection meetings.
